Equal rights for LGBT people in the EU: The European Parliament takes one further step

 

The European Parliament today adopted a resolution on the Multi-annual programme 2010-2014 regarding the area of freedom, security and justice, known as the Stockholm programme. By adopting this text, the European Parliament is calling on Member States \”without prejudice to national legislation on family law, to ensure freedom of movement for EU citizens and their families, including both registered partnerships and marriages\” in accordance with EU legislation, and \”to avoid all kinds of discrimination on any ground, including sexual orientation\” (sic in the resolution).

The European Parliament further stressed the need to establish EU-level anti-hate crime legislation, noting that the \”growing intolerance within the EU\” also needs to be tackled \”by further legislative actions on the field of hate crime on European level\” (sic in the resolution).

Michael Cashman and Ulrike Lunacek MEPs, Co-presidents of the European Parliament\’s Intergroup on LGBT Rights, referred to the adoption of the text as \”a step towards equality for all European citizens, although we regret that the resolution stops short of fully recognising same-sex unions.\” They continued: \”The European Parliament has just sent a clear message that Member States need to ensure the freedom of movement of all families, and recognise unions between all EU citizens, regardless of their sexual orientation. The text goes in the direction of an EU-wide recognition of all unions contracted in Member States; this is good news for all EU citizens, but we will need to keep up the pressure on EU institutions and Member States in the coming years to fully recognise same-sex unions—only then will we have genuine equality.\”

Evelyne Paradis, ILGA-Europe Policy Director, said that the resolution \”is very welcome since it illustrates the will of the new European Parliament to pursue the work initiated in the previous term, in order to achieve mutual recognition of all marriages and civil partnerships legally registered in one Member State. In addition, by calling for the adoption of a more comprehensive EU criminal law framework against bias violence, the Parliament gave evidence of its commitment to tackle a very worrying social curse. It is relevant to note that, by doing so, the Parliament took in consideration the opinion provided by the EU Fundamental Rights Agency\”.

O CENTRO AVANÇADO DE SEXUALIDADE E AFECTOS (CASA) organiza o primeiro grande debate, no Porto, sobre CASAMENTO ENTRE PESSOAS DO MESMO SEXO.

O debate é já no próximo dia 11 (quarta-feira) às 21h no auditório do Instituto Superior de Engenharia do Porto. A CASA convida tod@s a estarem presente nesta iniciativa.

DIA 21 DE NOVEMBRO DE 2009, 16 HORAS, NA CASA-DE-LÓ (na Travessa de Cedofeita, 20 A)

Sábado 21 de Novembro será a apresentação do livro infantil A Princesa e a Andorinha. S. Marisa Ramos C. recorre ao tradicional conto infantil para nos apresentar uma história com um final feliz atípico mas, ainda assim, verosímil.

A Princesa e a Andorinha reúne todos os elementos essenciais que apelam à reflexão de adultos bem como ao deslumbramento dos mais novos. Espelho da realidade, o conto pretende reeducar mentalidades ao ser um veículo transmissor de valores culturais e conhecimento. O livro retrata o percurso de uma jovem princesa triste que encontra a felicidade no refúgio da sua amizade com a andorinha Sissi. Esta vem a transformar-se numa igualmente bela princesa, desaparecida do reino do Gana há muito tempo, e entre as heroínas nasce um amor terno e sincero. Juntas enfrentarão uma sociedade regida por dogmas seculares.

O evento conta com as presenças de Marisa Ramos, a autora do livro, e do psicólogo Dr. Nuno Carneiro, profissional com experiência psicoterapêutica intensiva e continuada com crianças e com a realidade lgbt. Haverá leitura do livro para as crianças e adultos presentes e haverá espaço para discussão do tema e perguntas e respostas, assim como distracções para os mais novos.

Todos estão convidados a aparecer na Casa-de Ló, na Travessa de Cedofeita 20 A, no Porto no dia 21 de Novembro.
